Health Information and Guidelines

To ensure that children’s well being is met it is paramount a safe and hygienic environment is maintained at all times in our centres. To be able to uphold this policy it is essential that Parents/Whanau adhere to our policies pertaining to Health and Safety.

  • Please notify the centre by ringing if your child is unwell and unable to attend.
  • Should your child become ill while at the centre the parent/caregiver will be contacted to collect them immediately.

The following guidelines are to help you decide whether or not your child is well enough to attend the centre.

Infectious Disease Exclusion Period
Campylobactor Until cured, requires clearance certificate
Chicken pox Please keep your child away from the centre for at least 5 days from the onset and until all blisters have dried
Common Cold Please keep your child at home if they have an acute infection, i.e. who is sneezing, coughing and/or feverish, green discharge from nose
Conjunctivitis While there is a discharge from the eyes and/or treated by antibiotics
Gastroenteritis (viral) For 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea
Giardia Until treated – requires antibiotics
Glandular Fever Prolonged
Hand, Foot & Mouth Whilst child feels unwell
Head Lice The child must be taken from the centre and appropriate treatment administered. All nits should be removed before returning to the centre. The whole family should be treated.
Hepatitis A Until 1 week after jaundice starts
Influenza Exclude until the child feels well
Measles At least 4 days from onset of rash
Mumps Exclude for 9 days or until swelling goes own
Ringworm Exclude from the centre until all lesions are healed
Rubella, German Measles Exclude until fully recovered or for at least 4 days after the onset of a rash
Slapped Cheek Unnecessary unless child feels unwell
Vomiting/Diarrhoea The child may return to the centre 48 hours after the vomiting or diarrhoea has ceased.
Whooping Cough Exclude the child from the centre for 5 days after treatment has commenced

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding that you keep your unwell child at home to enable them time to fully recover and to minimise risk to other children, parents and staff.
